Preconference Seminars:

EPC Compliance & Benefits Training

EPCglobal and RFID Journal have teamed up to offer a special preconference seminar to help companies become EPC-compliant and achieve internal and supply chain benefits. This is you're unique opportunity to learn how to encode tags and associate them with the proper items, integrate tagging with back-end systems, use EPC data to drive benefits and hear how early adopters did it.

EPC Connection preconference seminars provide in-depth information on specific aspects of EPC and RFID technologies. Attendees can choose to participate in one of these prior to the opening of the main conference program. Preconference seminars are available through either the Full Conference Pass or Preconference + Exhibit-Only Pass.

Your EPC Compliance Checklist
You've heard from your retailer partner—now what? This session will guide you through the steps you'll need to take to become EPC-compliant. You'll learn what questions to ask your retailer partner to make sure you understand their requirements for case and pallet RFID tagging, as well as how to organize your internal RFID team and your tagging project to guarantee success. You'll also learn what you need to ask potential hardware, software and integration partners to ensure you're properly equipped to meet your retailer partner's requirements.

Speaker:
Sue Hutchinson, Director of Product Management, EPCglobal North America

How to Encode Tags and Associate an EPC With the Right Product
The first step in complying with an EPC tagging requirement is to be able to write your company's EPC codes to tags and make sure the proper EPC is associated with the correct product. In this session, experts from EPCglobal and GS1 will walk you through the process step by step, so your RFID-tagging efforts will remain in synch with best practices in today's supply chain.

Speaker:
Michele Southall, Director of Community Development, EPCglobal North America

Where to Tag Your Product
It's not enough to place a tag on your product—you also need to know your tag will be readable once it arrives at a retailer's location. Placing a tag in the wrong location, particularly on cases of products packaged in metal cans or containing a lot of water, can make it impossible to read successfully. This session will explain what you need to know, and demonstrate how tag placement affects your ability—and your supply chain partners' ability—to read tags.

Speaker:
Justin Patton, RFID Lab Director, University of Arkansas

Moving Beyond Slap-and-Ship
Once you are able to encode tags, associate them with the proper product and place each RFID label in a suitable location, you will be in position to meet tagging requirements. The next step beyond slapping tags on cases and shipping them to your customer is to integrate RFID and real-time product visibility information into your back-end system so you can manage tagged inventory seamlessly, thereby reducing costs and improving efficiency. We'll show you what middleware you'll need, and how to manage the integration.

Getting Benefits from Retail EPC Data
As you begin shipping more and more tagged cases, your customer will provide data on where and when tags were read within its operations. This information will enable you to know where your products are in near-real time. Learn how you can use this data to improve promotions management, reduce out-of-stocks and achieve other benefits.

Speaker:
Sue Hutchinson, Director of Product Management, EPCglobal North America

Putting It Together-Using EPC Connection as Step 1
Now that you've learned the basics, hear how you can take advantage of the EPC Connection conference tracks and exhibits to take your first steps toward EPC compliance for your retailer partners. This session shows you how.
